Sojourners
In an effort to obey God’s command to “Love the Lord your God, with all your heart, mind, spirit and strength and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves,” the founders of Hyaets are eager to minister to, with, and among people in our community. We are passionate about serving the community in which we live, specifically the inner-city community of Charlotte, NC. We strive to form relationships and partnerships with the people in our community, learning with our neighbors how to best serve God and others.
Incentive Trips
Each quarter Hyaets sponsors an extended activity for neighborhood youth and children as a means of encouragement, praise, and reward. Participation in these special activities is often based upon the fulfillment of certain requirements which provide some incentives for the youth to do well in school, act responsibly at home, help maintain the Hyaets houses, and participate in community service. Occasionally, a memory verse or Bible story is included as an incentive to think about God work and movement within our lives and beighborhood. Examples of these requirements include: household chores, attendance at youth devotional time on Wednesday nights, service projects, scripture memorization, and parental permission.
Past Incentive Trips have included camping in the mountains of NC, beach trips, and days at Ray's Splash Planet. Currently, quarterly incentive trips are as follows:
Spring
- Peace Week - Held during Spring Break
- Beach Retreat - Usually held Memorial Day weekend at NC Baptist Assembly at Fort Caswell on the coast of North Carolina. Youth from the Enderly Park and Parkview areas spend a weekend on the beach and exploring the old Civil War forts at Fort Caswell.
Summer
- Mission Trip - This past year we took middle school youth to Carolina Cross Connection with Christ United Methodist Church of Charlotte, NC and high school youth to Richmond, VA with Park Road Baptist Church of Charlotte, NC.
