Shade for
Sojourners
In an effort to obey God’s command to “Love the Lord your God, with all your heart, mind, spirit and strength and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves,” the founders of Hyaets are eager to minister to, with, and among people in our community. We are passionate about serving the community in which we live, specifically the inner-city community of Charlotte, NC. We strive to form relationships and partnerships with the people in our community, learning with our neighbors how to best serve God and others.
Adult Ministry
Our response to God’s call is to be good neighbors to those who live in Enderly Park. We seek to be good neighbors by opening our doors to our neighbors. When we open the door, we first learn about our neighbors and build a relationship with them. Through listening and relationship-building, we walk with our neighbors in a strength-based style of ministry. Here are some specific ways that we try to be a good neighbor:
- Listening to and learning from our neighbors
- Connect neighbors to other organizations and community resources to help meet their needs - Our resource notebook is available for this and is often updated
- Spend time with neighbors in casual conversation, a game of dominoes, a ride to church, etc.
- Offer help with developing resumes and finding possible jobs
- Offer rides to job interviews or jobs
- Share bus passes with those who are seeking a job or are trying to get to a job
- Offer rides to help get necessary groceries and pay bills and run other errands
- Offer food as we have it to those who are in need
- Offer temporary housing to those who are in need
- Develop a transitional housing ministry
- Working with other associations and organizations in the community
- Be a positive presence as people of faith and ministers of the gospel
